Andi and Mindme Wrist Alarm Integrate to Enhance Care

Alex Fulcher | 16 Aug, 2024 |

Andi, the innovative dispersed alarm unit and monitoring software solution by 2iC-Care, has taken a significant step forward in its mission to provide comprehensive, personalised care solutions. Through its integration with the Mindme Wrist Alarm, Andi now offers an even more robust and responsive ecosystem of connected care peripherals.

Mindme have been operating in the care sector for over fifteen years and during that time have played a leading role in the development of GPS personal alarms for vulnerable people. The Mindme Wrist Alarm is a small personal alarm worn on the wrist. The wrist alarm tells service users the date, time, their step count, battery status and has a panic button. Critically the Wrist Alarm also has GPS to communicate location information.

For example, 73 year old John Dunn, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s went missing on Christmas Day during a coastal walk on holiday with his wife Rosemary.

The device’s location, which was being regularly updated, enabled the response centre to know where John was. A local volunteer ambulance worker who joined the search therefore knew where to find Mr Dunn.

“[He] was said to be in a distressed state, was stuck in mud, and had suffered cuts as he tried to get over a barbed wire fence. He was airlifted to Dorset County Hospital suffering from the early signs of hypothermia but was successfully treated.”

Mrs Dunn said : “[Without the GPS information], it would have been very difficult to locate him.”

Expanding Andi's Functionality

The integration with the Mindme Wrist Alarm enhances Andi's capabilities by allowing it to collect and relay alarms to the Alarm Receiving Centre for emergency response. Or alerts can be communicated to relevant carers to be addressed and monitored for improved understanding of service users. Specifically, Andi will communicate the following types of data from the Mindme Wrist Alarm:

1. Emergency SOS alarm: When the user activates the SOS button on the Mindme Wrist Alarm, Andi will immediately relay this alert to the ARC.

2. Fall Detection Signals: If the Mindme Wrist Alarm detects a fall, Andi will transmit this information to the ARC for rapid response.

3. Location Data: Andi will collect the GPS coordinates from the Mindme Wrist Alarm, enabling precise location of the user in case of emergency.

4. Battery Status: Andi can relay the battery level of the Mindme Wrist Alarm, ensuring that low battery situations can be addressed promptly.

5. Device Status: Any changes in the device's status, such as powering on or off, will also be monitored by Andi.

By collecting and forwarding this critical data, Andi serves as a vital link between the Mindme Wrist Alarm, the ARC and care providers, enabling faster response times and more effective care management. This seamless data flow enhances the overall safety and support provided to users of Andi and the Mindme Wrist Alarm.

Andi's Evolving Ecosystem

A More Flexible Care Solution

Grace Thomson, Head of Partnerships and Marketing at 2iC-Care, explains the significance of this integration:

"By incorporating the Mindme Wrist Alarm into Andi, we're able to offer care providers and users a more responsive and tailored solution. This integration allows Andi to adapt to a wider range of care needs, from basic safety monitoring to more complex care management."

Data-Driven Care Decisions

The data provided by the Mindme Wrist Alarm enhances Andi's insights:

  • Proactive Care: By collecting alert frequency and trends in data from the Mindme Wrist alarm, Andi can help identify potential issues before they escalate.
  • Personalised Care Plans: The integration allows for more nuanced, individualised care strategies based on user behaviours and needs.
  • Efficient Resource Allocation: Care providers can use the enhanced data to optimise response protocols, staff and resource management.

The Power of Open Integration

Mindme's perspective on integration aligns perfectly with 2iC-Care's open platform approach, Katy Wolf-Gowing, Co-Owner of Mindme commented:

"Mindme recognises that one product does not necessarily offer a complete solution. By integrating with Andi, the Mindme Wrist Alarm becomes part of a larger ecosystem; one which is flexible, dependable and created to have a positive impact for end users.”

This collaboration exemplifies how Andi's interoperable software can incorporate specialised technologies to create a more comprehensive care solution.

Empowering Independence Through Technology

The integration of the Mindme Wrist Alarm with Andi furthers the Mindme team’s goal of promoting independent living. As Katy Wolf-Gowing, Co-Owner of Mindme explains:

"Our commitment is to provide digital devices that give end users the confidence to live independent and active lives, potentially reducing loneliness in later life, whilst knowing that help is one button push away."

This aligns perfectly with 2iC-Care' mission to enable more people to live independently for longer, supported by technology that's both powerful and unobtrusive.

Looking to the Future

As Andi continues to evolve, integrations like this one with the Mindme Wrist Alarm pave the way for even more innovative care solutions. The combination of Andi's alarm response and monitoring software and the Mindme Wrist Alarm's functionality creates a powerful tool for promoting safety, independence, and well-being.

We invite care providers, technology partners, and end users to explore the enhanced Andi. Experience firsthand how this integration is transforming care delivery, making it more responsive, personalised, and connected than ever before.
